With four straight wins in Germany, Laguna Seca, Indianapolis and Brno, the Repsol Honda Team and Marquez set their sights on the title and achieved their target in Valencia, Marquez becoming the youngest premier class World Champion at 20 years and 266 days old, taking the record from fellow Honda Legend Freddie Spencer. Victory would come at just the second race of the season, Marquez becoming the youngest premier class winner at 20 years and 63 days old when he took the first of his seven wins at the Americas GP.
